The Role
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join the operations team. This role focuses on implementing, maintaining, and optimising IP, MPLS, switched, and optical networks while assisting with the delivery of new services. You will be responsible for fault diagnostics and restoration, planned works management, service commissioning, and hardware management.
This role suits a self-sufficient problem solver who thrives under pressure, can think on their feet, and enjoys working with complex networks. On-call duties and occasional travel around Australia will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose complex network faults and restore services across IP, MPLS, DWDM/CWDM, Metro Ethernet, and customer networks
- Field replace suspect or broken equipment, including power supplies, line cards, and optical units
- Liaise with customers, third parties, and internal teams to resolve faults efficiently
- Monitor network performance and recommend improvements
- Install, commission, and test new network services
- Upgrade and maintain network hardware and software, ensuring spares are available
- Document network configurations, changes, and test results accurately
- Assist and advise the NOC and internal teams on network faults, design, and implementation
Requirements for the position
- Degree in Engineering/Telecommunications or equivalent experience (Highly Regarded)
- 5+ years managing and maintaining carrier-grade networks nationally or regionally
- Strong knowledge of network switching, routing, and transmission technologies
- Experience with dynamic routing protocols (BGP)
- Hands-on experience with optical fibre networks, CWDM & DWDM systems
- Experience in detecting and mitigating DDoS attacks
- Skilled in fault diagnostics, service restoration, and hardware commissioning
- Familiarity with operational processes, documentation, and ticketing systems
- Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Full Australian driver’s licence
- First Aid or Remote First Aid Certificate (desirable)
