The Role
We’re seeking a skilled Network Technician with strong telecommunications experience to join an operations team responsible for maintaining and supporting a national IP, MPLS, switched, and optical network. You’ll play a key role in both day-to-day operations and the rollout of new services.
  
This role suits someone proactive, hands-on, and confident in independently resolving complex network issues.
  
There is also an on-call requirement for after-hours work and occasional interstate travel at short notice.
  
Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and restore faults across a large-scale fibre, Ethernet, and IP/MPLS network.
  • Manage and execute planned works, upgrades, and service transitions.
  • Support day-to-day network maintenance, service commissioning, and testing activities.
  • Install, configure, and commission new services and network devices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, customers, and vendors to resolve issues and ensure high network availability.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network changes, installations, and test results.
  • Handle spares and inventory, including hardware replacement, warranty management, and stock control.
  • Monitor network performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

  
Requirements for the position

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating, managing, and maintaining a carrier-grade network at a national or regional level
  • Strong knowledge of network switching, routing, and transmission technologies
  • Proficiency with dynamic routing protocols, particularly BGP
  • Experience in detecting and mitigating DDoS attacks
  • Hands-on experience with optical fibre networks, including DWDM technologies
  • Strong Communication and documentation skills (for escalations & team collaboration)
  • Australian citizenship (required to meet government baseline security clearance criteria)
  • Valid full Australian driver’s licence
  • Eligible to work with Vulnerable people and pass fit to work checks
