The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Network Technician with a strong telecommunications networking background. You’ll be working on implementing, maintaining, and supporting IP, MPLS, switched, and optical networks, as well as assisting with the delivery of new services.
This role is hands-on and suited to someone proactive and self-sufficient, who can think on their feet and resolve issues independently. There is an on-call requirement for after-hours support, and occasional regional or interstate travel may be required at short notice.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and restore faults across metro and long-haul transmission systems.
- Maintain, replace, and upgrade active and passive network equipment.
- Install, configure, and commission new services and network devices.
- Prepare fault analysis reports and recommend improvements for faster resolution.
- Support day-to-day network maintenance, service commissioning, and testing activities.
- Liaise with customers, vendors, and network partners to resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of network installations, configurations, and test results.
- Manage spares, including hardware replacement, warranty, and stock control.
- Participate in software version upgrades and planned works.
Requirements for the position
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating networking equipment in a commercial or telecommunications environment.
- Strong understanding of network switching, routing, and transmission technologies.
- Knowledge of IP routing, Ethernet switching, and optical fibre networks.
- Exposure to CWDM/DWDM systems and optical test equipment highly desirable.
- Experience with ITIL processes, ticketing systems, and planned installations/maintenance.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Australian citizenship (required for baseline security clearance).
- Full Australian driver’s licence.
- Eligible to work with vulnerable people and pass fit-to-work checks.
