IT & Telecomms, System Administration

About the Organisation
Join a national, mission‑driven Not‑for‑Profit (NFP) delivering business‑critical technology services. This is not a typical MSP—there’s stability, meaningful work, and a genuine commitment to treating people like individuals, not numbers.

Why this role matters
You’ll be the engineer driving uplift across Windows Server, Hyper‑V, and Microsoft cloud services in a large, multi‑site environment. The scope is broad: infrastructure upgrades, identity & data security, automation, and performance tuning. If you like owning outcomes, fixing root causes (not Band‑Aids), and balancing project work with BAU, you’ll thrive here.

What you’ll do

  • Own projects + BAU: Work in Agile sprints across operational infrastructure projects and day‑to‑day improvements.
  • Major uplift: Lead upgrades from Windows Server 2019 to 2025 across Hyper‑V hosts and virtual workloads.
  • Identity & data protection: Advance IDAM uplift—build on existing M365 sensitivity labels and drive the next initiative: Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
  • Automation & engineering practices: Use PowerShell and Git to build, improve, and version control scripts; contribute to CI/CD‑aligned workflows.
  • Operations excellence: Own escalations from Desktop/Operations (QA especially around security compliance), drive to root cause, and document clearly.
  • Partner & plan: Work with Product/PMO as a new PMO function comes online, shaping project streams with long‑term solutions.

The environment you’ll work in

  • Microsoft 365: O365 with broad use of the suite.
  • Private cloud first: Clustered Hyper‑V as the core.
  • Azure Local (planned): No Azure VMs today; Azure Local landing zones and visibility are on the roadmap—production experience is a big plus.
  • Tooling: Git, PowerShell, and CI/CD exposure (pull, update properly, push via PRs).

How you’ll work

  • Autonomous problem solver: Given a task → own it end‑to‑end.
  • Generalist mindset: Wide infrastructure exposure over narrow SME depth.
  • Quality + compliance: Validate, test, and ensure configurations meet security baselines.
  • Reliability thinking: Design for HA/failover and load‑balanced scenarios; tune monitoring/alerting to be useful, not noisy.
  • Supportive team: You’ll have peers in Desktop/Operations for collaboration and buddying.

What you’ll bring (to be considered)

  • Australian Citizenship and ability to pass security clearance.
  • 5+ years in Microsoft server engineering across enterprise/complex environments.
  • Designed/deployed multi‑site Windows Server and Hyper‑V environments.
  • Hands‑on with remote automated deployments and configuration management.
  • PowerShell automation depth; practical Git workflows; CI/CD exposure.
  • Experience maintaining monitoring & alerting across hybrid Microsoft estates.
  • Strong grasp of HA/failover, load balancing, and distributed Windows.
  • Clear documentation habits: procedures, runbooks, and knowledge transfer.
  • Proven track record in system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and security controls.

Nice to have

  • Azure Local in production (or Azure Stack HCI/Azure Arc equivalents).
  • Prior experience uplifting IDAM, DLP, and data governance in M365.
  • Exposure to PMO‑driven delivery and Agile ceremonies.

Benefits

  • Mobile & internet allowances
  • Annual bonuses
  • Salary sacrifice options (NFP)
  • Recession‑resilient sector
  • Above‑market superannuation
  • Above‑market parental leave
  • Strong career advancement focus
  • Close to public transport + onsite free parking
