IT & Telecomms, System Administration

We’re partnering with a long‑standing Australian organisation that builds and operates mission‑critical infrastructure at scale. They’re not a “lift‑and‑shift” shop and they’re not chasing shiny tools — this is deep, hands‑on engineering, supporting platforms that are heavily invested in for the long term.

This role suits a seasoned Linux engineer who understands how systems are actually built and operated, not just how to deploy workloads on top of them. Someone who sees what needs to be done, takes ownership, and executes.

Why This Role?

  • Complex, long‑lived platforms — not throwaway builds
  • Engineers are trusted to make decisions and improve the environment
  • Strong focus on doing things properly, not just quickly
  • Meaningful work underpinning critical services
  • Phone & internet allowance
  • Annual bonus based on personal + organisational KPIs
  • Salary sacrifice up to 30%
  • Free onsite parking
  • Above market superannuation
  • Strong internal promotion pathways (several of my placements have progressed quickly)
  • Above market parental leave

The Opportunity
You’ll join a core infrastructure team responsible for designing, building and operating highly automated Linux environments, including private cloud and container platforms running on‑prem.
Kubernetes experience is important — but so is understanding the underlying infrastructure it runs on. This team has built their own platforms, and you’ll be trusted to improve, scale and modernise them over time.

There’s a strong focus on automation, stability, and long‑term planning (upgrades, extended support cycles, and platform longevity), not constant churn.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing, building and operating Linux environments at scale
  • Supporting and evolving an on‑prem Kubernetes platform (not just deploying apps)
  • Driving Infrastructure as Code using Ansible and related automation tooling
  • Owning problems end‑to‑end — from root cause through to durable solutions
  • Working on platform upgrades, lifecycle management, and long‑term roadmaps
  • Contributing to private cloud services (OpenStack experience is highly regarded)
  • Collaborating closely with engineers who value pragmatic, well‑engineered solutions

You’ll bring:

  • Strong Linux engineering background (Red Hat environments ideal)
  • Real‑world experience building and operating Kubernetes on‑prem
  • Deep automation experience (Ansible essential)
  • Solid core infrastructure skills — compute, storage, virtualisation, networking
  • Experience designing systems that scale, fail gracefully, and are operable
  • A calm, methodical approach to problem‑solving and incident ownership
  • Have Australian Citizenship as this role requires you to pass clearances and police checks.

Nice to have (but not mandatory):

  • OpenStack / private cloud experience
  • Experience with HA designs, monitoring and systems hardening
  • Exposure to public cloud alongside private infrastructure
